Community
At Alexander Lumber, we have been helping build communities since 1891. We are proud of our involvement in the communities where we serve, and we welcome the opportunity to give back. As a company, we focus our corporate social responsibility efforts on organizations that support our industry, and we are proud to align ourselves with the following:
- Habitat for Humanity
- Boy Scouts of America
- Local trades programs
We frequently donate materials in support of projects; we also give of our time and expertise to promote the lumber industry and advance the building trades.
Some Ways We’ve Given Back:
Eagle Scout Sponsorship
Alexander Lumber Crystal Lake sponsored Xavier Giron’s Eagle Scout project (Boy Scout Troop 267, Huntley, Ill.), donating treated wood, header beams and plywood materials for the two dugout rooftops for Sunset Baseball Field #8, Lake in the Hills, Ill., that he built. Shown are Xavier and Alexander Lumber Crystal Lake Manager Bob Knowles.
Supporting Scouting
Alexander Lumber Crystal Lake donated the plywood and lumber for Cody Ahlness’ Eagle Scout project for Woodstock Scout Troop 329. The project involved constructing two cat tree stands, which was donated to the Helping Paws Animal Shelter of Woodstock, Ill.
Sharing Industry Knowledge
For a building class at Elkhorn Area Middle School, “Mr. Gary” (OSR Gary Guetzloff, Alexander Lumber Elkhorn) recently partnered with Wausau Homes Elkhorn and helped the class put together a materials list for building the play house that will be donated to charity. The kids made the decisions on interior and exterior finishes.
IDEA 2020 Winners
A representative of Alexander Lumber Components served as a judge at the regional IDEA Competition, an Illinois Educators Design Association state competition for design and drafting for registered high schools, at Kishwaukee College, Malta, Ill. on Feb. 28, 2020. Alexander Lumber sponsored prizes in several categories.
ACE Academy
Alexander Lumber Iowa City was a proud sponsor of the 2018 ACE Academy at City High School in Iowa City, Iowa, providing lumber and other materials. Students in the ACE classes are exposed to the world of Architecture, Construction and Engineering by participating in a real-life project; students in this program experience everything from the design to the construction to the engineering of an actual project. This particular project was a building for the City High Athletic Department.
Building a Stronger Community
Alexander Lumber also supports its employees’ individual efforts in giving back to their communities in ways that are meaningful to them.
